July 1, 2021 Update for the 2021-2022 School Year
Today Governor Brown’s Executive Order 21-15 takes effect. Within this Executive Order(EO), the Governor rescinds state “orders that impose mask mandates, capacity limits, expanded capacity limits that depend on vaccine verification, and physical distancing in businesses and other sectors…” This EO also returns decision-making regarding guidelines for K-12 schools to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon Health Authority, with local school districts ultimately making final determinations for the implementation of those guidelines.
What does this mean for TTSD staff and students?
As a publicly funded institution and with the requirements of current state and federal funding for emergency summer programming, we must continue to follow the guidance of ODE’s Ready Schools Safe Learners Resiliency Framework for the 2021-22 School Year, which includes summer school 2021. TTSD summer programming will require students and staff to wear masks while working together indoors and on school buses, regardless of vaccination status, and physical distancing of at least three feet be maintained between people wherever possible. Face coverings will not be required for outdoor activities, regardless of vaccination status.
We understand that parents are anxious to hear if masks will be required in the fall. We anticipate additional guidance coming from ODE in late July and will be working with our County Health Department to responsibly plan for bringing all students back into our buildings. Please watch for updated guidance in early August.
