AI Guidance

Students must use technology honestly, safely, and responsibly. Expectations include:

• Follow classroom tech agreements and instructor guidelines.

• Protect personal data and review privacy settings.

• Avoid harmful, dishonest, or inaccurate content.

• Report suspicious activity (e.g., cyberbullying, deepfakes).

• Never mimic others (voice/image) or use copyrighted material without consent.

• Review content for bias, harm, and accuracy before sharing or using.

A clear guide for AI use in assignments:

• 🔴 Red Light – AI Not Allowed
  Tasks assess personal knowledge or skill (e.g., writing essays, test answers). AI use would undermine the purpose.

• 🟡 Yellow Light – AI Allowed with Citation
  AI can support research or brainstorming (e.g., outline ideas, suggest titles) but must be cited (APA/MLA).

• 🟢 Green Light – AI Allowed without Citation
  Tasks where AI doesn’t impact original thinking (e.g., translate text, check grammar).

Students must:

• Submit original, transparent work.

• Cite sources, including AI.

• Avoid plagiarism, misinformation, or unauthorized collaboration.

If dishonesty is suspected:

• Staff use restorative conversations to understand student intent.

• Plagiarism detectors or AI flags are not sole proof—further discussion and review are required.

• Disciplinary actions follow the Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook if necessary.

  • Guidance on reviewing AI-generated or human content for bias or harm.

Shared Responsibilities:

• Manage data securely, review privacy settings, and report risks.

• Avoid and review harmful or biased content.

• Abide by tool-specific usage terms.

• Guide students in proper citation of AI-generated material.

Staff-Specific Roles:

• Create classroom tech use agreements.

• Use district-approved tools (Digital Resource Menu).

• Teach digital citizenship and media literacy.

• Select accessible and unbiased instructional materials.

Administrator Roles:

• Oversee building-level tech use.

• Coordinate with district tech leaders.
