Math Placement

As we continue to strive towards equitable opportunities and outcomes for each of our students, we continue to refine our practices in acceleration, specifically those in Math. Below you will find information about Math Acceleration within the Tigard-Tualatin School District. As we move through this process, parents/guardians can contact their student's school with any questions. We look forward to partnering with you this year.

Eligibility

  • 5th graders advance to Math 6. Students can qualify for acceleration to Math 7.
  • Students in Math 6 advance to Math 7. Students can qualify for acceleration to Compacted Math 7.
  • Students in Math 7 advance to Math 8. Students can qualify for acceleration to AGS 1.
  • Students in Compacted Math 7 will advance to AGS 1

Acceleration beyond the above pathways is available for students on a case-by-case basis.

Course Descriptions

  • Math 6 - Grade level course based on 6th grade math standards
  • Math 7 - Grade level course based on 7th grade math standards
  • Compacted Math 7 - Faster paced course that teaches all 7th grade standards and ½ of 8th grade standards in one year

Process

  1. School sends the Middle School Math Survey for Families in the Spring to all incoming and returning students. https://forms.gle/D3FzSRBZuADZ2w3e6
  2. Students complete the iReady math assessment in the Spring window.
  3. District team confirms the iReady math assessment data falls in the range for eligibility.
  4. School teams review survey results and data.  School teams may include: Administrator, Teacher, Counselor, TAG Facilitator.
  5. Final placement decision is made and communicated to the family.
  6. Finalize the student schedule for fall.
