TTSD Statewide Assessment Results

The Oregon Summative Assessments, known as state testing, are tools used to measure and evaluate the academic performance of identified student groups in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The purpose of these assessments is not to measure the academic outcomes of any individual student. 

Students 3rd through 8th, and 11th grade

The Summative Assessment is a federal requirement and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires at least 95% participation for all student groups. However, the Student Assessment Bill of Rights (ORS 329.479) requires districts to provide the option for parents to opt-out of state testing.

The information from these assessments help evaluate academic programs across districts and schools and help districts prioritize where additional funds are needed to address gaps. Assessment outcomes identify and inform districts where there are academic inequities in identified student populations and where continued investment from the Student Success Act, the High School Success program, and the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund should be prioritized. 

Districts strive to have high participation rates to provide an accurate and responsible report of current student academic performance. Districts are best informed on overall student achievement and can responsibly identify where additional resources and funding should be directed when there is a high student participation rate in the assessments.

In 2022, 81.2% participated in the ELA assessment compared to 96.2% in spring 2019.

In 2022, 80.6% participated in the Math assessment compared to 95.6% in 2019.

In 2022, 75.9% participated in the Science assessment compared to 96.2% in 2019. 

Overall, TTSD performed above the state average yet we see declines in all categories. This aligns with the trends represented throughout the state and nation and validates the student impact on learning throughout the pandemic.

In 2021, and coming out of comprehensive distance learning, TTSD prioritized investing ESSER funding in a real-time assessment system (iReady). This system informs the district and our teachers on where our students are – where they are having success and where they need focused support. Individual plans are created for students setting the path for them to master the standards. This work will result in a stronger performance in upcoming state assessments. 

Students will participate in iReady assessments in the fall, winter, and spring.
