Tigard/Tualatin, Ore. – The Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD) will receive two new electric

school buses with funding provided by Portland General Electric’s Electric School Bus Fund,

made possible by the Oregon Clean Fuels Program.

This follows 2022 funding from PGE that paid for TTSD’s first two electric school buses,

installation of charging infrastructure and technical and training support.

“This is a welcome addition to our efforts to use cleaner fuels to power our bus fleet,” said TTSD

Superintendent Dr. Iton Udosenata. “We are very grateful to PGE for its support.”

PGE’s Electric School Bus Fund helps provide electric buses to public school districts within

PGE’s service area to give students a cleaner, quieter and healthier bus ride while also directly

benefiting the environment and providing cost savings for the district.

Transportation is a major source of air pollutants. Benefits of electric school buses include:

  • Cleaner air
    • Electric school buses reduce greenhouse gas emissions
    • Electric school buses have zero tailpipe emissions and reduce carbon monoxide emissions, nitrogen oxide emissions, and other toxic compounds
  • Safety and comfort
    • Electric school buses are quiet, reducing noise pollution in neighborhoods
    • Drivers are better able to communicate with students
  • Lower cost
    • Electricity is less expensive than diesel, and prices are more stable over time

TTSD received two new electric buses on December 13, 2024, and they have been in operation since.

This project has been made possible by DEQ’s Oregon Clean Fuels Program via the PGE Electric School Bus Fund.
