The Tigard-Tualatin School District is pleased to announce that Jessica Swindle has been named director of Teaching and Learning, starting July, 1. Swindle is a proven instructional leader with deep expertise in literacy, multilingual education, and inclusive practices.

With nearly two decades of experience in education, Swindle brings a strong track record of advancing student achievement and leading system-wide instructional improvement. Since 2019, she has served as principal at Metzger Elementary School, where her leadership has resulted in significant gains in student outcomes, particularly for multilingual learners.

Before serving as principal, Swindle held multiple instructional leadership roles within TTSD, including literacy specialist and Title I coordinator. Her collaborative work includes partnerships with Portland State University, as well as district-level committee leadership. Early in her career, Swindle served as a classroom teacher and bilingual home visitor as part of the Head Start program.

Due to recent administrative reductions and reorganization, the director of teaching and learning role will now encompass responsibilities previously held by other roles. Swindle will support school leadership and oversee district-wide curriculum, instruction, and professional development efforts. A search for Metzger’s new principal will begin soon.

“Jessica Swindle is deeply committed to the success of students and staff in TTSD,” said Associate Superintendent Dr. Jeremiah Patterson. “Her depth of knowledge in classroom instruction and her focus on developing systems are a great match for the work we have before us.”

Please join us in welcoming Swindle into this new role.
