As we continue to strive towards equitable opportunities and outcomes for each of our students, we continue to refine our practices in acceleration, specifically those in Math. Below you will find information about Math Acceleration within the Tigard-Tualatin School District. As we move through this process, please feel free to contact us with any questions. Eligibility
- 5th graders advance to Math 6. Students can qualify for acceleration to Math 7, Compacted Math 7 or AGS 1.
- Students in Math 6 advance to Math 7. Students can qualify for acceleration to Compacted Math 7 or AGS 1.
- Students in Math 7 advance to Math 8. Students can qualify for acceleration to AGS 1.
- Students in Compacted Math 7 will advance to AGS 1.
- Students in AGS 1 will advance to AGS 2.

Course Descriptions
- Math 6 - Grade level course based on 6th grade math standards
- Math 7 - Grade level course based on 7th grade math standards
- Compacted Math 7 - Faster paced course that teaches all 7th grade standards and ½ of 8th grade standards in one year
- Math 8 - Grade level course based on 8th grade math standards
- AGS 1 - 1st in a three year series of high school level courses that integrates Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics (not eligible for high school credit if taken in middle school)
- AGS 2 - 2nd in a three year series of high school level courses that integrates Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics (not eligible for high school credit if taken in middle school)
- AGS 3 - 3rd in a three year series of high school level courses that integrates Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics (not eligible for high school credit if taken in middle school)

*TTVA utilizes a slightly different Math Pathway. While Compacted Math 7 is not available at our virtual school, students may be eligible for AGS1 or AGS2 while in middle school at TTVA. See the decision rules below and please reach out to the school with any questions/concerns you may have.

Process
- Students complete the iReady math assessment in the Spring window.
- District team confirms the iReady math assessment data falls in the range for eligibility.
- School sends the Middle School Math Survey for Families-Spring 2022 to all incoming and returning students.
- School teams review survey results and data. School teams may include: Administrator, Teacher, Counselor, TAG Facilitator.
- Final placement decision is made and communicated to the family.
- Finalize the student schedule for fall.

Math Placement Reconsideration
All middle school students/families should receive their math placement decision letters by the end of July at the latest. Please reach out to your school directly if you have not received this letter by then.
Once you have received this letter and would like the math placement decision reconsidered, please complete the TTSD Math Reconsideration Form by Friday, August 12th, 2022. A District team will review all reconsideration requests and communicate a final math placement for the start of the 2022-23 school year within the final two weeks of August.

Decision Rules
Multiple measures are used to determine student readiness for acceleration. The decision rules are designed to allow for acceleration without creating gaps in conceptual knowledge.

Criteria for placement into Math 7/Compacted Math 7
Students who demonstrate the following are recommended for Compacted Math 7:
- End of Year i-Ready D3 - 6th grade mid or above in all domains
- AND meet one or more of the following criteria-
- Current Grade, End of Course Report Card
- 5th grade report card - Exceeding (4) in all math standards
- 6th grade math grade - Final grade A (for acceleration to Compacted Math 7)
- SBAC - Level 4
- Current Grade, End of Course Report Card
- AND- Family input survey that indicates student/family choice of acceleration.

Criteria for placement into AGS 1 as a middle school student
Students who demonstrate the following are recommended for AGS 1:
- End of Year i-Ready D3 - 8th grade mid or above in all domains

- Compacted 7th - Final grade A, B, or C
