RORY MOORE TO ASSUME PRINCIPAL POSITION AT TIGARD-TUALATIN SCHOOL DISTRICT’S TEMPLETON ELEMENTARY AND KALAPUYA EARLY LEARNING CENTER 

Moore will assume position at TES and District’s new early learning center beginning July 1, 2022

Tigard, Oregon – Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD) Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lisa McCall announced Rory Moore has been named Principal of Templeton Elementary School (TES) and the new Kalapuya Early Learning Center (KELC). KELC is the District’s first standalone preschool and welcomed its first students in early 2021. 

With over 14 years of experience in education, Moore is currently the principal of TTSD’s Alberta Rider Elementary (ARE) where he is serving his 6th year. Before ARE, he has served as a learning specialist for both Fowler and Hazelbrook Middle Schools and as a Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) for the District.

“Rory is a proven collaborative leader and community builder with a strong commitment to student success,” said TTSD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lisa McCall. “These are key qualities we were looking for as we continue to build this new campus of learning at Templeton. He is well-positioned to step in and contribute to the District’s work in growing inclusive preschool programming for all students.”  

TES completed a full rebuild as part of the TTSD 2016 Bond in the fall of 2019. The new early learning center was included in the plans to renovate the old Templeton building and was completed in late 2020. After a community process led by the district and with student engagement, TTSD named the new learning center the Kalapuya Early Learning Center to honor the Kalapuya Indigenous tribe who once inhabited the lands these buildings now reside on.

“Serving the Alberta Rider community – from the students and staff to all of our families, has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Moore. “I am very excited for the opportunity to work with Templeton’s amazing community and to contribute to the development of our early learning programs across our district.” 

Moore earned a BA in History with Minors in Communications and Business from the University of Oregon. He earned his M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and a MS in Special Education from Portland State University, and Administrator licensure from Lewis and Clark College.

About the naming of the Kalapuya Early Learning Center

The Ashalati were an indigenous tribe of Kalapuya Native Americans who were the first inhabitants of the Tigard area and were forced from this land in the 1850’s. The TTSD Pre-K Naming Committee, after thorough research and discussion, overwhelmingly voted to name the Early Learning Center “in honor and recognition of the Kalapuya Indigenous tribe who once inhabited this area and created an opportunity for TTSD to grow a relationship with the Grand Ronde Tribe.”  You can learn more about this decision making process in the Youtube video of the TTSD Pre-K Naming Committee Recommendation to the School Board.
